Further Progress

Work on the website continues.

It has been a while since the previous update. My focus is often on other pursuits, and indeed, this website is a new endeavor for me. I am not yet in the habit of thinking of this website every day.

But I’d like to ramp up this website alongside my other projects. Let’s go over them for a moment:

Wutianqi

A long-time hobby of mine has been creating games. I have fond memories of designing games as a wee lad, and the compulsion to create my own rules for fun has never gone away. Recently most of my games have been roleplaying games (more on those later), but a certain board game has risen above the rest.

This game is Wutianqi, which is kinda-sorta Chinese for Heaven’s War Chess. It is a chess-like board game mixed with collectable card games. Build your army from your collection and outmaneuver your opponent. Each token shows its legal moves so you don’t have to memorize hundreds of pieces to easily figure out your strategy.

The rules have been pretty much finalized and the game is actively being playtested. Eventually there will be wooden tokens, but for now I am making do with printed paper pieces. The rules and board are currently available on my Dropbox; you can find links on my Wutianqi page. A printable starter set will be available soon!

I would also like to make a plugin for Tabletop Simulator, so you can play online then flip the table when your opponent takes your emperor in a brilliant move. We’ll get there eventually.

Freelance Writing

Though I’ve written since before I could write (I would dictate stories to my patient father), only recently have I made that part of my income. That was last summer.

Handmade Keyboard

The act of creation calls to me in many forms. One such form will be that of a custom made keyboard, made with wood and leather. And mechanical switches, of course. This project is in the design phase but I intend to document it on this website.

Reviews

I would love to review a product or two. In fact, my first review may be of the keyboard I am using to type these words; however, I do not have access to a good camera at the moment!

How is that, you ask? Well, my smartphone’s camera refuses to focus. I suppose I could upload the blurry pictures my phone produces, but you’d have a better chance understand the topic by closing your eyes and imagining things. Those pictures are only worth two or three words, at most.

A new phone is in my future, at which point I will be able to practice my meager photography skills and clack out some words about how much I like or dislike certain things.
